About Sequester

Sequester is a privacy-first encrypted vault for personal photos and videos. We build software where security, reliability, and user trust are product features???not afterthoughts.

About this role

You will design and review the cryptographic core of Sequester???how keys are derived, wrapped, rotated, and never exposed???so "encrypted vault" is a provable claim, not marketing.

What you will do

  • Design and review algorithms for client-side encryption, key derivation, and secure backup
  • Evaluate third-party crypto libraries and reject unsafe primitives or configurations
  • Document threat models and crypto agility plans for algorithm upgrades
  • Pair with backend and mobile teams on correct API usage (nonces, AEAD, key hierarchies)
  • Respond to internal research questions and external researcher reports on crypto design

What we are looking for

  • Applied cryptography experience in production systems (not academic-only)
  • Strong math fundamentals and familiarity with libsodium/BoringSSL/WebCrypto patterns
  • Ability to explain tradeoffs to non-cryptographers without oversimplifying risk
  • Background screening and credential requirements per tier-4 access policy

Location

Remote-friendly. We hire globally and collaborate async-first across time zones.
